Asheville Cotton Mill
(Asheville Cotton Mill when first acquired) In 1992 the Society joined riverfront revitalization efforts when it acquired the former Asheville Cotton Mill from a local bank. The complex was not only one of the most significant historic industrial structures in Asheville, it was identified as a pivotal site for the future redevelopment of the French Broad River corridor. The property was being marketed for redevelopment when it was destroyed in a fire that started at an adjacent structure and spread to the mill as well as four other riverfront properties. Following the fire the Society transferred ownership of the property to RiverLink, Inc., a local non-profit spearheading riverfront redevelopment which is now overseeing the future development of the property.
